New digital payment system for travel bans and arrest warrants in Dubai

In line with Dubai’s ever-evolving and dynamic changes to its legal system, it has now pioneered a new “Smart Fine Payment” system that aims to streamline the process involving arrest warrants and travel bans. This new system employs a unique approach in assisting individuals that have been convicted in criminal cases in handling the settlement of fines and the automatic lifting of travel bans post-court judgment. These can be done with one of three methods:

  1. accessing a link via a text message and inserting their digital ID to make the payments;

  2. paying fines through payment devices; or

  3. logging in to the Public Prosecution’s website and making the payment online.

Once the payment has been received, the Public Prosecution will immediately revoke the arrest warrant, with the travel ban immediately lifting following the issuance of a Court judgment.

These proactive digital services are a positive development in expediting the implementation procedures of judgments made in absentia, and a further step in the right direction of digital evolution in the UAE.
